A Saskatchewan poverty reduction group is seeking the public’s opinions for their recommendations for a poverty reduction strategy.
The Advisory Group on Poverty Reduction launched a consultation website today asking citizens to share their stories and perspectives on poverty.
“The information shared will be given to the committee and we will use it to help inform the recommendations we will share with the provincial government,” said Alison Robertson, Co-Chair of the Advisory Group on Poverty Reduction.
The group is currently researching information so they can provide recommendations to the government that will inform the development of a poverty reduction strategy.
Robertson, says for the most part people already know what needs to be done, but it is time for action.
“The province has been doing a lot of work and sharing information for a number of years, so it is not a matter of reinvented the wheel. We are just researching what has been done and what needs to be done,” said Robertson.
In addition to the online process, the Advisory Group is also holding one-on-one meetings with stakeholders across the province and will be hosting a roundtable discussion on the topic at the end of the month.
The group’s recommendations are expected to be given to the government in June.
The Advisory Group’s online survey is available on the website at www.saskatchewan.ca/government/have-your-say/reducing-poverty-in-saskatchewan.
