The number of Aboriginal students on the University of Saskatchewan campus continues to rise.

Self-declared Aboriginal student enrollment at the university is up 7 per cent compared to this time last year.

The university says as of the first day of classes, there were a total of 2,401 Indigenous students registered in classes.

At the beginning of last year's fall semester, the university also saw an increase of 8 percent from the year before with 2,210 Aboriginal students registered.

Meanwhile, overall student enrollment at the U of S is up 2.6 per cent from the previous year of over 20,000 students registered.

A more detailed analysis of enrollment trends will be completed in mid-October when the university officially records fall-term enrollment data.
