Comedian Don Burnstick brought his “healing through humour” message to Cowessess First Nation Thursday afternoon.

Burnstick performed his dramatic play “I Am Alcohol”, which he says was received very well.

“The thing about the play is that it reaches different age groups, from little kids to adults. Without preaching or moralizing, it gives a message, and I play a homeless character — the central character is about alcohol, and shows them — I kept telling them what the dangers are. I show them on stage,” Burnstick says.

Burnstick also performed a family comedy show last evening on Cowessess.

This is just one of many activities Cowessess has hosted for National Aboriginal Addictions Awareness Week.

Meanwhile, the Métis Addictions Council of Saskatchewan is holding its 12th annual Sober walk in Regina today.

Organizers say it will help bring awareness to community about addictions.

The walk starts at 12:15 p.m. at the Regina Detox Centre and will end at the Métis Addictions Council of Saskatchewan office.

Organizers say they’re expecting 90 to 100 people.
