Residential schools, Supreme Court rulings and native self-government are some of the topics that will be covered in a special chiefs’ assembly in Ottawa over the next three days.
The gathering is being hosted by the Assembly of First Nations.
There will also be discussion on the United Nations’ Draft Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and on-going work related to the Canada-Aboriginal Peoples Roundtable.
Hundreds of Canada’s Indian chiefs and other native citizens are expected at this week’s assembly.
