More than 1,300 First Nations students from across Canada have completed a fitness challenge aimed at raising awareness about healthy living and diabetes.
The Assembly of First Nations fitness challenge was designed to show people how aerobic and resistance exercise can help people with diabetes better control their blood sugar levels by burning fat.
Exercise can help reduce the risk of diabetics getting heart disease or stroke.
The challenge, which had 78 teams participating across the country, wrapped up this past Saturday, which was World Diabetes Day.
AFN National Chief Shawn Atleo is calling on the government to continue supporting this initiative, which is up for renewal next year.
