The Assembly of First Nations is hosting a special chiefs assembly in Ottawa, beginning today.

Issues to be dealt with include the recent commitments from the First Ministers Meeting on Aboriginal Issues and the recent compensation agreement for residential school survivors.

As well, the chiefs will discuss the federal election and they will hear a report and recommendations from a commission looking into the renewal of the AFN.

The gathering wraps up tomorrow.
