An official with Transwest Air says it’s doubtful the company will be able to accommodate same-day flights to Fort McMurray for northerners.

Yesterday, the company announced its schedule for flights to the northern Alberta city, effective September 12th.

The new flight will leave Saskatoon Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 8:55 am and fly non-stop direct, arriving in Fort McMurray in just under two hours.

The Saab 340a aircraft used for the new route will be fed by same-day connecting flights from Regina and Prince Albert.

However, company spokesman Ken Landers says they aren’t able to make same-day arrangements for travellers from La Ronge or places farther north, due to time constraints and cost.

For northern Saskatchewan customers, an overnight in Saskatoon will be required the night before the flight.

He adds the company is open to new arrangements in the future, including charter service, if enough demand is found and the company deems it feasible.
