All-Weather Road Network Becomes Election Issue

Federal election candidates in Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River are being challenged to state their parties’ position on the all-weather road project in the Far North.
The provincial government recently committed $65.5 million to a northern roads strategy — and the long-awaited all-weather road network will be the centrepiece.
But Athabasca development official Glen Strong says the project will still need a federal contribution, and that’s why leaders in his region have issued the challenge of a 50% funding commitment.
Strong also wants the various parties to commit to lobbying for this project if they don’t get into power and to state what they have done on this file in the past.
