Another Dismal Wild Rice Harvest Expected

The forecast for this year’s wild rice harvest is looking pretty grim, but a government agrologist says traditional land users in the North have other crops that are faring much better.

Gerry Ivanochko says the wild rice harvest this fall will make it three poor years in a row that growers will have had to endure.

Ivanochko says although the wild rice harvesters are having some troubles, berry pickers are cashing in on healthy crops across the North.

He adds the loss of the spring morel mushrooms started the season off on a sour note for mushroom pickers, but the chanterelles are coming along quite nicely.
