APTN Renews Commitment To Aboriginal Languages

The Aboriginal Peoples Television Network is moving forward with plans to increase Aboriginal language programming in a bid to promote Native languages in Canada.
APTN currently airs 25 percent of it’s programming in an Aboriginal language.
Current licence terms stipulate that 60 per cent of programming must be in English, and the remaining 15 per cent in French.
APTN has found a “loophole” in licence constraints which allows the network to air Aboriginal language versions of shows produced in English or French.
By airing repeats of the programs in Aboriginal languages, the network will still be able to respect the terms of its licence.
APTN currently produces programs in more than 15 Aboriginal languages.
