Band Enters Diamond Exploration Partnership

The Canoe Lake Cree Nation is looking for diamonds on its traditional land.

Project coordinator Barry Opikokew says they hope to discover the precious stones in land north of the Primrose Lake Air Weapons Range.

Great West Diamonds, a Saskatoon-based exploration company, has been brought on board to lead the search.

Opikokew says a helicopter survey of the land was carried out just last week, but no major work can begin until freeze-up.

Opikokew is also working on a memorandum of understanding with a natural gas company, but he says that project is still in the very early stages.
