The Montreal Lake Cree Nation has taken the wraps off its new ready-to-move housing company.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony for South Beach Homes took place Friday on the band’s portion of the Little Red River reserve.

The company is designed to construct and ship pre-fabricated homes to reserves across the province.

Montreal Lake Chief Lionel Bird says many benefits will come through the business, including an opportunity to get band youth involved in the housing industry.

The company is presently using three different construction sites to ensure they can meet the specified time-frame for buyers.

South Beach Homes says it can construct the units in as little as three months’ time, and it has already received well over 100 orders.

Bird says he’s also intrigued by the idea of adding a furniture store somewhere down the line.
