An education council has been launched with the intention of strengthening and enriching the cultural and academic experience of First Nations students near North Battleford.
On Friday, Indian Affairs Minister Andy Scott announced a partnership with six Battlefords-area First Nations.
INAC has committed $800,000 towards the project for 2005 and 2006.
Indian Affairs spokesman James Parker says the new council will enable the bands to buy school supplies at a reduced price and will also create a grading system for all teachers.
Parker adds the council is being established at arms-length from outside forces.
A financial accountability framework is also being set up.
