The Beardy’s Okemasis First Nation paid homage to one of their own today, as the band renamed a school and unveiled a statue in memory of Cst. Robin Cameron.
Her father Howard spoke at length about the roller-coaster ride the family has experienced ever since she lost her life nearly one year ago.
He said they are coping and that’s due in large part to the kindness and well-wishes of family, friends, fellow band members and strangers.
Beardy’s Okemasis Chief Rick Gamble officially renamed the school on the reserve as the Constable Robin Cameron Educational Complex. As well, a biography of her life was read to everyone in attendance.
Hundreds of people attended the ceremony, including AFN Chief Phil Fontaine, FSIN Chief Lawrence Joseph and Northern MP Gary Merasty.
Robin Cameron is survived by her daughter Shayne, as well as her parents Howard and Denise.
