Boarding School Compensation Policy Unclear

The office of Indian Residential Schools Resolution Canada is clarifying its position on compensation issues for residents of boarding schools.
Earlier today, an independent contractor at the agency’s help desk indicated former attendees of federally-run boarding schools would be eligible for compensation.
However, a public affairs official within the department is countering that claim.
Sarah Mangioni says to the best of her knowledge, an agreement signed in late November to compensate residential school survivors doesn’t include federally-run boarding schools in its wording.
Mangioni says, right now, only institutions classified as residential schools fall under the compensation umbrella.
She admits there is a great deal of confusion about the issue, and her office is working to clarify matters.
