Buffalo Narrows Mayor Elected Chair Of New North

A well-known political leader in northern Saskatchewan has a new position.

Last week, Buffalo Narrows mayor Bobby Woods defeated Ile-a-la-Crosse mayor Duane Favel to become the new chairman of New North, a northern municipal lobby group.

Woods replaces La Loche mayor Georgina Jolibois, who did not run for re-election.

Woods says he wants New North to become more engaged with its member municipalities, as well as engaging in dialogue with northern First Nations.

“We’re all one big family here, and we need to start opening up communication between the municipalities and First Nations communities, and work together as a unit,” he says.

Woods says that will show others that they’re all pushing in the same direction.
