Cabinet Ministers Skipping Roundtable: New North

The chair of the New North municipalities group says a meeting next week between all the northern mayors will be missing some key players.

Buffalo Narrows mayor Bobby Woods says provincial cabinet ministers who were invited to New North’s annual roundtable in Prince Albert have not confirmed their attendance.

Woods says he and other northern mayors are frustrated that the ministers won’t be coming to P.A. to hear their concerns.

“We feel that one voice, with the unification of all the other municipalities, is a strong voice, and we want the ministers to hear what we have to say. We have issues, just like any other municipality in Saskatchewan, and sometimes we feel that we’re left out on some of the things, and sometimes we feel that we’re not being represented. So we need to talk to the ministers, and I hope that the ministers will hear us and listen to us,” he says.

Woods says if the ministers don’t come to their meeting, New North will travel to Regina to have their voices heard.

A call to Municipal Affairs Minister Jeremy Harrison was not returned.
