Call Renewed For Inquiry Into Yellow Quill Tragedy

Saskatchewan’s Children’s Advocate says he still wants to see an inquiry launched into the tragic deaths of two girls on the Yellow Quill First Nation.
Marvin Bernstein first raised the issue in the wake of the investigation into the freezing deaths of Kaydance and Santana Pauchay.
He notes recent legal proceedings involving the girls’ father has likely delayed the announcement of any inquiry, should one be launched.
However, Bernstein says it is vital government and the public understand the root cause of how such a tragedy could happen.
Bernstein also says the provincial government needs to examine why 80 per cent of the children coming into care are of Aboriginal background.
He says he wishes the government would put the same kind of attention on First Nations children as it does on the economy.
