A uranium mining giant in the province is keeping its options open regarding the disposal of nuclear waste in the province.
Cameco Corporation spokesman Lyle Krahn says the company is pleased to see northern communities talking about the issue.
Just recently, the Nuclear Waste Management Organization held a public consultation in Beauval as part of its plan to present a proposal to the federal government on nuclear waste disposal and storage.
Krahn says if there ever comes a time when politicians in Regina and in the North are willing to look at storing nuclear waste in northern Saskatchewan, Cameco will be ready to do its part.
Last week, Cameco CEO Jerry Grandey told the Saskatoon Star Phoenix that his company would “love” to help establish a nuclear waste storage facility in Saskatchewan.
