Caribou Management Talks Into Second Day

Some positive feedback seems to be emerging from a caribou management meeting going on in Prince Albert today.
Members and delegates of the Beverley and Qamanirjuaq Management Board are receiving updates about a variety of topics — including the results of a satellite monitoring project involving some of the animals.
Craig Adam is a youth delegate from Fond du Lac who is attending the meeting. He says he finds the session very informative, and adds he values the information the board provides.
Meanwhile, a resident of Uranium City says he has some concerns that industrial activity is affecting the caribou’s movements.
Billie Shott says he doesn’t believe numbers are in decline, but he worries too much mining activity is shifting their routes.
Another concern ventured at the meeting came from a Metis representative from South Slave Lake, NWT. Earl Evans says he worries numbers are falling in the Northwest Territories, because herds are mixing.
Board members are set to hear more information about the radio-collaring measure and other projects today and tomorrow.
The Prince Albert Grand Council is scheduled to present a report about the Athabasca Land Use project tomorrow.
