The RCMP have charged the father of two toddlers who died in freezing temperatures on the Yellow Quill First Nation this past January.

The Mounties say they arrested a 24-year-old Yellow Quill resident in Rose Valley yesterday afternoon.

The mother of the two victims has informed The Canadian Press that the man taken into custody was the girls’ father.

Christopher Pauchay was released last night, and will be back in court on May 21st in Rose Valley.

The RCMP say he has been charged with one count of criminal negligence causing death, “. . . specifically for failing to provide protection from exposure to the elements for the two young girls”.

RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Carole Raymond says the Mounties made sure Crown prosecutors had sufficient evidence to make a call on whether to lay charges.

Raymond also says the length of time to get to this stage was necessary, in order to conduct a thorough examination of the available evidence.
