Cold Weather Forces Several Closures

The cold weather continues to play havoc with heating systems across the North.

For the third straight day, several schools in Northern Saskatchewan are closed for the day.

As well, homes in several northern communities that are heated with propane are experiencing difficulty. In extremely cold weather, propane can turn into a gel form.

Furnace problems have shut down the Northern Store in Southend for the day.

And in La Ronge, the Lac La Ronge Indian Band office and the Kikinahk Friendship Centre have also closed for the day because of heating problems.

At one point this morning, the temperature in La Ronge reached -47 degrees Celsius.
