Four hundred Metis and First Nations people could soon be working in the home-building industry, thanks to a new program.
The three-year program was announced Thursday. It’s expected to cost a total of $6.3 million.
The federal and provincial governments — along with aboriginal groups and the private sector — are combining forces to foot the bill.
Under the program, Metis and First Nations participants will get experience in all facets of affordable home construction.
The province is kicking in $2.3 million over three years, while the federal government is contributing another $3 million.
The private sector and Aboriginal groups are combining their efforts to provide the remaining $1 million.
