Northern municipalities have set their election dates for this fall.
In southern Saskatchewan, all rural municipalities go to the polls on November 1st, while cities, towns and villages vote on October 25th.
But in the North, there’s a variety of election dates to accomodate a busy fall for traditional land users like hunters, trappers and wild rice growers.
Municipal Affairs spokesperson Colleen Digness says the varied dates are for cabin owners, as well.
Three northern municipalities have chosen September 20th as their election date — Uranium City, Camsell Portage and Missinipe.
Sled Lake will have its vote on September 25th.
On September 27th, six more northern municipalities will hold elections — Pinehouse, St. George’s Hill, Garson Lake, Black Point, Brabant Lake and Southend.
October 4th will be a busy day for municipal elections in the North, with 11 centres opening up the polls.
They include La Loche, Beauval, Cumberland House, Jans Bay, Cole Bay, Michel Village, Denare Beach, Bear Creek, Descharme Lake, Wollaston Lake and Stanley Mission.
Most of the rest of the northern municipal elections will go October 25th. Votes will be held in La Ronge, Air Ronge, Creighton, Ile-a-la-Crosse, Buffalo Narrows, Green Lake, Patuanak, Turnor Lake and Sandy Bay.
Voting dates haven’t yet been posted for Stony Rapids, Weyakwin, Timber Bay and Dore Lake.
