Domtar To Dismantle P.A. Pulp Mill

An official with Domtar is confirming reports that the company is preparing to demolish the Prince Albert pulp mill.

Bonny Skene says the work should take about a year, and will begin early in 2010.

Skene notes that the mill hasn’t been operating since 2006, and poor market conditions have contributed to the decision.

She also says Domtar is no longer in talks with Iogen Corporation, which had signed a letter of intent with Domtar to use the site.

“There were discussions with that party, and as I understand, the term of the agreement under which those discussions were occuring has expired, and terms weren’t reached,” Skene says.

She adds she that isn’t sure what the site will look like at the end of the demolition, but notes plans are still underway.
