The Sakitawak Development Corporation in Ile-a-la-Crosse has made a $63,000 donation to the multi-million-dollar joint-use facility that’s now under construction in the northern village.

When the facility is completed in July 2007, it will serve as both a high school and as the community’s new hospital.

The local development corporation’s recent donation is going towards the $800,000 the community has to raise to pay for equipment purchases.

Ile-a-la-Crosse mayor Max Morin says they’ve raised $450,000 so far, with the SDC contributing a total of $188,000 of that total.

Morin says that’s a large sum for a small corporation, especially in comparison to what uranium giants Cameco and Areva have donated.

He is challenging both companies to come through with more funding on top of the $50,000 they’ve each committed to the project.
