Election Day In Beauval, La Loche

Civic elections are again being held today throughout northern Saskatchewan.

 

One of the more intriguing battles for mayor is taking place in Beauval, where former MP Rick Laliberte is up against Metis activist Alex Maurice.

 

In La Loche, incumbent mayor Georgina Jolibois is facing challenges from five other candidates — former mayor John (JJ) Janvier, Emilien Janvier, Peter Janvier, Kenneth Lemaigre and Leonard Montgrand.

 

Cumberland House, Jans Bay and Cole Bay are among the other municipalities holding votes today.

 

In all, there are 11 northern centres holding elections.

 

Another 15 communities in the North will conduct their elections on October 25th.
