Encouraging News For Northern Trappers

A fur marketer in North Bay, Ontario says the appeal of marten and muskrat pelts to international buyers is starting to rise.

Fur Harvesters Auction held its February sale this past week, and spokesman Mark Downey says the price of marten pelts has already increased over their impressive performance at another sale held last week by North American Fur Auctions.

But Downey is especially impressed that prices fetched for muskrat appear to be on an upswing, since all fur marketers have had a tough time selling that item in recent years.

Downey is also happy that the beaver pelt is starting to be bought up by some non-traditional markets like Russia and China.

As well, he says the prices for lynx pelts continue to rise substantially.
