First Nations across the country are set to receive new mining information kits soon.
The packets contain detailed information on what bands should know before they engage in partnerships with outside mining companies.
Bruno Bond, a spokesperson for Natural Resources Canada, says mining offers many opportunities for isolated communities.
But he says they should know some basic ground rules first, such as how public/private partnerships are supposed to work.
He adds the kits also contain details about the wide number of jobs offered by the companies.
Right now, Ottawa estimates there are 1,200 Aboriginal communities located near 2,100 active exploration sites across Canada.
