Efforts are underway in Prince Albert to help First Nations men and women develop their parenting skills.

Elsie Sanderson, a long-time educator and researcher, says Aboriginal society seems to be forgetting the core values that kept it flourishing for thousands of years.

She says that has resulted in a generation of youth who float through life without purpose and who feel disconnected from the traditional ways.

Sanderson hopes the launch of an Aboriginal parenting program will address this, and she’s currently exploring various ways to make it happen.

Sanderson says there is great value in raising First Nations children the traditional way, and she is determined to see that occur more often.
