FNUC Ready For Committee’s December Visit

The president of the First Nations University of Canada says a committee appointed by the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada will arrive in early December.
The much-publicized tour was ordered after the AUCC told the school to make changes in its governance, or else.
Charles Pratt says he’s pleased by the makeup of the panel, noting the AUCC did appoint at least one of the people the school suggested.
However, he would like to see the AUCC communicate more specifically the objections the organization has with the FNUC.
Pratt says he hopes recent headlines generated by a labour decision concerning the school don’t unduly influence committee members, either.
He explains the FNUC still hasn’t decided whether it will take any action in the wake of the decision.
Meanwhile, Pratt says he is encouraged by a recent letter of support the school received from an international body.
The World Indigenous Nations Higher Education Consortium says it supports the FNUC in its “struggle to maintain Indian control over Indian institutions”.
