Forest Fires Near Stony Rapids Allowed To Burn

A spokesperson for Saskatchewan Environment says two wildfires burning southwest of Stony Rapids could be going for some time.
Val Nicholson says the department is currently tracking the Royal fire, located 40 kilometres southwest of the community — as well as the Supper fire, which is 65 kilometres southwest.
She says both fires are considered “active”, but aren’t threatening any communities right now.
Nicholson says government crews won’t target either blaze unless they get much closer to the community.
A clerk at the Black Lake band office says the smoke is quite visible in the area today, but it’s not too bad.
