FSIN Blasts Health Funding Proposal

An official with the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations says he’ll be watching carefully to make sure provincial premiers don’t try to overstep their boundaries at next week’s meeting on health care with the prime minister.
Vice chief Morley Watson says he’s concerned about a recent statement by BC Health Minister Colin Hansen that provinces could do a better job of delivering health services to Aboriginal people — and for less money.
Watson says that idea goes against the intent of the treaties and would put health care funding for First Nations people at risk.
However, Watson says he is open to the thought of having the provinces work with Aboriginal people to make sure Ottawa lives up to its responsibilities.
