FSIN Opposed To Nuclear Waste Storage In Province

The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations says it rejects any proposal to store nuclear waste in Saskatchewan.
However, vice chief Delbert Wapass says individual First Nations will still have the right to proceed with that type of project on their own.
The Nuclear Waste Management Organization recently concluded that Saskatchewan would make an ideal location for such a facility, because of its high concentration of uranium.
Wapass says the FSIN hasn’t been given the resources to adequately research this subject — but he adds the federation’s opposition is also based on First Nations’ ties to the land.
Wapass also says the NWMO can’t say it has consulted adequately with Saskatchewan First Nations on this issue, because he says it hasn’t.
