Indian bands in need of new housing could receive some good news today, according to a high-ranking First Nations leader.

Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations Vice Chief Guy Lonechild is in Ottawa to witness the expected deal-signing between Paul Martin and the country’s national Aboriginal organizations.

Lonechild says he was impressed with the government commitments that were made yesterday on the issue of residential school abuse claims and he’s hoping that trend continues.

Lonechild says today’s deal-signing is expected to pave the way for better relations between Ottawa and Indian bands.

He says the tone amongst Aboriginal leaders present at the gathering is very positive.
