The federal government has announced more money for the Gabriel Dumont Institute.

Two months ago, Canadian Heritage gave GDI $60,000 to host this weekend’s national Michif language conference.

Today $125,000 more was announced for a Michif language initiative.

As part of it, a Michif speakers association will be developed to establish a database of speakers for public events.

The money will also be used to create a Michif language resource centre.

Metis Nation – Saskatchewan President Robert Doucette says the money may not sound like a lot, but he thinks it will go a long way.

Doucette says the money can also be used to leverage more money from other funders.
