The Fur Harvesters Auction House in North Bay staged its first sale on Friday and from all accounts, it was a successful one.

Beaver pelts checked in at an average price of $26.45 with a high of $52.

Otter pelts recorded an average price of $85 with a high of $109.

However, auctioneer Dave Bazin says muskrat was considered the big winner at the sale.

Bazin says the auction saw an early collection of approximately 42,000 rats, which sold at $9.13 with a top of $11. He says the auction sold about 75% of the total number of pelts, which worked out to be 120% increase over last December.

Other prices to note included the Wild Mink at average prices of $21.64.

Western Coyote recorded an average price of $46 with a top of $61.

All the prices are in Canadian currency.
