The former chief of the Prince Albert Grand Council has announced he is seeking the Liberal nomination in Saskatchewan’s northern riding in the upcoming federal election.
Gary Merasty’s name has long been mentioned as a possible choice for the Liberal nomination in the Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River riding.
However, he made his intentions officially known today, saying he has filed nomination papers with the Liberal Party and will attend a nomination meeting Friday night in La Ronge.
Merasty says he hopes to build a stronger North by utilizing the competitive advantages of the constituency’s residents, while at the same time acting as a strong voice for them.
He denies accusations by opposition party leaders that the Paul Martin government is corrupt, adding Martin has met challenges like the sponsorship scandal head-on.
He maintains the Liberal government is working to help northern Saskatchewan.
