A 17-year-old boy from Grandmother’s Bay has been given a one-year sentence for his part in the death of a man from the community last year.

The unidentified youth will serve 8 months in custody, and the remaining 4 months under supervision.

That’s on top of the time he has already spent in custody.

The youth was sentenced on Friday after pleading guilty to manslaughter.

He and two of his brothers were originally charged with second degree murder in the stabbing death of 24-year-old Michael C. Ballantyne last summer.

But those charges were reduced earlier this year.

His 16-year-old brother has already pleaded guilty to assault and was sentenced to time served.

His 20-year-old sibling will be in Prince Albert Court of Queen’s Bench later this week, also on an assault charge.
