If Jeremy Harrison’s appeal of Monday’s election results is not successful, he will be in line for a hefty severance package as a defeated MP.
The Canadian Taxpayers Federation has released pension and severance calculations for departing Members of Parliament.
According to the federation, the former Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River MP did not serve enough time in Ottawa to qualify for a pension, but will qualify for a lump sum severance payment of just under $75,000.
The CTF says with the election of a new government, it’s time to bring pay and pensions for MPs in line with public expectations.
