Harrison Says Lower GST Better Than Income Tax Cut

Incumbent Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River MP Jeremy Harrison believes the riding’s constituents would benefit more from the Conservative plan to cut the GST, as opposed to the income tax cuts proposed by the Liberals.

The Conservatives are promising to drop the GST to 5% from the current 7% if they win the January election.

Harrison argues that a large portion of the people in northern Saskatchewan don’t pay income tax, while everyone pays the GST on almost all purchases.

He adds the Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River constituency has the lowest average income of any region in Canada, and cutting the federal income tax will only benefit high income earners.
