Henderson Wins Vote at PAGC Assembly

The Prince Albert Grand Council has a new southern vice chief.

 

He’s Edward Henderson of the Montreal Lake Cree Nation.

 

Henderson defeated fellow band member and incumbent vice chief Elmer Ballantyne, as well as 3 other challengers, in an election held today at the PAGC’s annual assembly in Prince Albert.

 

Henderson won the vote on the first ballot by capturing 96 votes.

 

Ballantyne received 57 votes.

 

Sturgeon Lake band member James Felix finished third in voting with 17 votes, Robin McLeod of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band had 13 votes and former James Smith chief Walter Constant picked up 5 votes.

 

The PAGC consists of 12 First Nations, representing 5 tribal groups and over 30-thousand status Indians.
