Indian Affairs Orders New Vote On Reserve

A new election is expected to take place on the Red Pheasant reserve sometime in February.

Just yesterday, it was learned that Indian Affairs had quashed the results of a vote that took place this spring, after investigating widespread complaints of apparent irregularities.

INAC spokesman James Parker says they are already taking steps to make sure the next election happens properly.

Parker adds much of the problem related to this year’s vote apparently revolved around how mail-in ballots had been treated.

He says strict instructions are being given to the chief electoral officer to make sure nothing improper happens to them during the new vote.

However, Parker says the department will not be disqualifying anyone who ran the last time around.
