The commanding officer at the La Ronge RCMP detachment is welcoming the announcement last week of a new court house in the community.
Staff Sgt. Kirk Munro says La Ronge was put on a high priority list as a result of the inadequate facilities presently in place.
Munro says there is a need for an extra court room, better cell facilities, a larger interview area and more office space.
The design work for the new court house will begin immediately.
Detailed construction plans for the new court houses in La Ronge and Meadow Lake is expected to cost approximately $1.5 million.
On Friday, the province announced an investment of $7 million for ailing court houses across Saskatchewan.
