A First Nations language conference kicks off in Saskatoon this week.
Titled “Reclaiming Our Voice,” the 3 day event focuses on how Aboriginal people can retain their native languages spoken in Saskatchewan.
Patricia Deiter is the Director of the Saskatchewan Indian Cultural Centre, the group hosting the conference. She says a number of presentations and workshops will be held over the issue, including one hosted by herself that deals with de-colonization.
She adds the Maori Indians are just one example of people who saved their language in the nick of time.
She notes SICC will be looking to support immersion-programming as well.
The conference begins Wednesday at the Travelodge Hotel in Saskatoon.
