The incumbent chief is back in at the Canoe Lake First Nation — but just barely.
Guy Lariviere beat out five challengers in yesterday’s band election, but his margin of victory over second-place finisher Robert Opikokew was just two votes.
There’s no word yet if the final vote count will be challenged.
Meanwhile, there are 4 new faces on the band’s council.
Clement Durocher, August Iron, Wilfred Iron and Delores Blackmon join incumbents Bernice Iron and Morris Iron on council.
The Canoe Lake band also had voting the other day for the positions of trustees to oversee the band’s trust accounts, but so far, the results haven’t been announced.
