Let It Burn Policy Remains The Same So Far

It appears that the fire policy for northern Saskatchewan will be staying as is… at least for now.

Jeanette Krayetski, a spokeswoman for the province’s environment department, says there are no plans to adjust the 20 kilometre buffer zone that surrounds northern communities.

Under the terms of the policy, fire-crews won’t attack blazes outside that zone, until they get within that distance.

The Sask Party had said the Government should revisit the policy after a close call at Stony Rapids.

However, Krayetski says no changes are planned right now. She adds the department will continue talking with northeners about the issue.
