Loss of C.O. in Cumberland House Angers Locals

A resident of Cumberland House can’t believe the provincial government has decided to remove the region’s only conservation officer.
Renee Carriere says the Cumberland Delta is an ecologically-sensitive area with several threatened or endangered species, including moose.
Carriere says things were bad enough when there was only one C.O. in the community when there should have been 2 or 3 resource officers — but now, she says traditional land users are left without an important liaison.
Carriere is also upset that residents of northern communities affected by the office closures and job cuts at Saskatchewan Environment haven’t had a chance to confront government officials about the moves.
