The mayor of La Loche had a chance yesterday to discuss her community’s crime reduction plans with Saskatchewan Justice Minister Frank Quennell.

Quennel was in La Loche yesterday for a face-to-face meeting with Georgina Jolibois.

Jolibois is hoping the provincial government will be able to provide tools and resources to La Loche as the community develops an action plan to reduce violence and vandalism.

Quennell agrees with Jolibois that alcohol and drug abuse are at the root of the problems in La Loche, and says a number of northern communities he’s visiting this week are saying the same thing.

Jolibois says it might be time for community members to find a way to make each other accountable for their actions.

Jolibois says she received assurances from Quennell that the provincial government will work closely with the northern community in its anti-crime efforts.
