The Green Party of Saskatchewan has announced who will represent it in the coming provincial by-election in the Cumberland riding.

Regina resident Tory McGregor announced his candidacy this morning in La Ronge.

The 28-year-old Metis man will be up against the Saskatchewan Party’s Dale McAuley and the NDP’s Doyle Vermette.

McGregor says one of his main policy recommendations coming into this by-election is legislative protection for Aboriginal groups when natural resources are developed.

McGregor is also proposing the creation of an Environmental Review Commission that would oversee natural resource development.

He also wants to see deputy ministers from First Nations and Metis Relations and Northern Affairs stationed in La Ronge.

At last word, the Liberal Party of Saskatchewan had yet to secure a candidate.

The by-election will take place on June 25th.

The constituency has been without an MLA since Joan Beatty’s resignation in early January.
